The all-time greatest lineup in league history for CSK.
One of the Indian Premier League’s most successful teams is without a doubt Chennai Super Kings. The franchise was established in 2008 and is under the ownership of India Cements. The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is the home field for the team.
CSK, which has been led by MS Dhoni from its founding, has won the IPL championship five times: in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. The “Yellow Army,” the team’s devoted and ardent fan base, cheers CSK on during each IPL season with fervor. In light of the several players who, aside from MS Dhoni, have excelled for the CSK team, we present the CSK All-Time Greatest XI in IPL history.
The all-time best XI in league history for CSK is as follows:
- Vijay Murali
The founder of the CSK team was Murali Vijay. After the seasoned New Zealand player resigned from the game and was appointed coach of CSK, he took over as the opener in Stephen Fleming’s place. He has two stints of 2009–2013 and 2018–20 for CSK, playing 70 matches overall and scoring 1,708 points overall with an average of 25.87.
His greatest IPL score of 127 runs came against the Rajasthan Royals in 2010, when he also helped CSK record their highest IPL score of 246 runs. Before the 2014 Indian Premier League, Vijay was the CSK team’s go-to guy for soaring starts. However, he was let go. Despite making a comeback in the 2018 Indian Premier League, he was not given many opportunities.
2. Mike Hussey
Mike Hussey, an Australian, participated in 49 IPL innings between 2008 and 2013 and 2015, amassing 1,768 runs at a 43.12 average and 123.63 strike rate. The first hitter from the Chennai Super Kings to reach a century in the IPL was Hussey. That being said, Hussey accomplished something noteworthy during the 2008 IPL.
The legendary Australian batsman for MS Dhoni and company was superb both in the field and at the top of the bat. Hussey was MS Dhoni’s trusty deputy and helped CSK weather the storm.
3. Suresh Raina
Chinna Thala or Suresh Raina, played his entire IPL career, barring the two seasons with Gujarat Lions, for Chennai Super Kings. The vice-captain of the side, Raina played 176 matches, scoring 4’687 runs with one century and 33 fifties. His average was 32.32 and his strike rate was 136.88.
On top of that, he was the top fielder for the side anywhere in the field and even captained the CSK team a handful of times. His knock of 87 in a playoff game in IPL 2014 qualifier 1 is considered to be one of the top five best knocks ever in the league.
4. MS Dhoni (C-WK)
The lifeblood of the Chennai Super Kings team is MS Dhoni. When he was purchased as the most expensive player in the first-ever IPL 2008 auction, N Srinivasan named him captain right away and gave him complete control over the team’s cricket operations. And when he led CSK to the championship match in 2008, MS Dhoni replicated the faith.
Subsequently, Dhoni won the championship in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023 to match the five IPL titles won by Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. MS Dhoni, who is 42 years old, will return to play for CSK in the IPL in 2024. Regarding his record, Dhoni has participated in 220 IPL games for CSK, where he has amassed 4508 runs with a strike rate of 137.48 and a career-high score of 84*.
5 Ravindra Jadeja
When Ravindra Jadeja joined CSK in 2011, the team won the Indian Premier League. He has taken 125 wickets for the Yellow Army in 158 games, with a 5/16 best bowling average. The best all-rounder on the trip had an economy of 7.53.
In addition, Ravindra Jadeja has amassed 1,630 runs at a strike rate of 135.15 and a top score of 62* while using the bat. And who can forget his’sword-like’ celebration as he hits a spectacular fifty for the Chennai-based team? Jadeja has been a major factor in CSK’s success thus far and captained the team in the 2022 Indian Premier League.
For four years, ace spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had a fantastic relationship for CSK. Along with Ravindra Jadeja, he was a winning combination for the Chennai Super Kings and one of captain MS Dhoni’s brightest assets. Ashwin claimed 90 wickets at an economy rate of 6.45 in 97 games for CSK.
Ashwin’s bowling average was 3/16, and when the time came, he also made a contribution with the bat. But when CSK made a comeback in the 2018 Indian Premier League, the team decided against bringing Ashwin back. The office is presently an IPL player for the Rajasthan Royals.
Imran Tahir, a legendary leg spinner from South Africa, was a player for CSK from 2018 to 2021. Throughout his time with the team, he managed to accumulate 35 wickets in 27 games. Tahir had the best bowling stats of 4/12 in these games, and he also had an economy of 7.11.
It’s interesting to note that Imran Tahir was one of MS Dhoni’s most aggressive bowlers ever and that the Chennai franchise won the IPL in both 2018 and 2021. He was instrumental in making CSK a formidable force once more following their two-year ban.
MS Dhoni was greatly pleased by pacer Deepak Chahar when he began his IPL career with the Rising Pune Super Giants. Because of this, when the Chennai Super Kings made a comeback to the IPL in 2018, the captain insisted that Chahar be purchased by the team at auction. Chahar has taken 71 wickets in 68 games for CSK so far.
The pacer’s economy in these outings has been 7.84. In addition, Deepak Chahar’s highest bowling average was 4/13. Despite missing the IPL 2023 due to a back ailment, Chahar is expected to return with a bang in the IPL 2024.
