Sourav Ganguly made a huge prediction on the ongoing India vs England five-match Test series.
During an exciting third day of the first Test match between India and England, which is currently taking place in Hyderabad, England has a chance thanks in large part to Ollie Pope’s outstanding 148*. On Day 3, at Stumps, England rallied to post a 126-run lead with 316/6 in response to India’s 436 in their opening innings.
Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin both claimed two wickets to lead India’s bowling unit. Meanwhile, Joe Root took out Ravindra Jadeja (87) to start the day, taking four wickets in the process. Root eliminated Jasprit Bumrah as well.
In the meantime, Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India and president of the BCCI, made a bold forecast regarding the current five-match Test series. “The series will be won by India; the question is whether they will win 4-0 or 5-0. Each test will have finality. If England had batted effectively, they could have won this Test match. Making 230 or 240 runs on Indian territory is insufficient to defeat India. They could have defeated India if they had scored 350 or 400, but they were unable to do so. For England, this series is difficult. Other than Australia in that particular age, no team could make any kind of impression here,” he stated.
Ganguly believes that because of its rapid nature, England’s Bazball strategy won’t be effective in the opening Test. Additionally, he believed that the spinning wickets of the subcontinent do not suit bazball.
Ganguly also forecasted the outcome of the T20 World Cup in another prediction. “India is a strong contender for the T20 World Cup. India just competed in the World Cup final, and their defeat to Australia was heartbreaking. I didn’t think they would lose the tournament despite playing really well, but that’s what happens in sports,” he remarked.
“India is a very positive aspect. India will get another chance because the West Indies and America have similar conditions to those of India. The World Cup will be prepared for by the IPL,” he continued.
On Day 4, Pope and Rehan Ahmed (16*) will take the field again for England in an attempt to give them a real opportunity against India by extending their lead to at least 200 runs.
