“The group is performing as anticipated. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were not expected to be present. I think we’ve ended that chapter,” Chopra remarked.
Even after striking a double-century against Jharkhand in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara wasn’t considered for inclusion in the next five-match Test series against England. After being dismissed from the South Africa series, Ajinkya Rahane, who was named vice-captain in the series against the West Indies, is no longer in the running. Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player, said in reflection that the pair would not be taken into consideration going forward and that their chapter was over.
Chopra also commended Pujara for his altruistic demeanour. He said that whereas Pujara bats for fun, other cricket players score runs for selection. The 46-year-old referred to him as the “saint of cricket” and said that he would always score runs, but he doesn’t think the player would be able to return to the national squad.
“The group is performing as anticipated. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were not expected to be present. In my opinion, the chapter is over. That was your last chance to pick them if you didn’t pick them in South Africa. On his YouTube channel, Chopra stated, “You are not going back to them if you did not pick them there.”
“Last week, Pujara hit two centuries. He is cricket’s patron saint. Because he scores runs for more than only selection, he will continue to do so. Runs are scored for selection by half of the world. He merely plays cricket because he enjoys hitting. He makes runs since it’s something he enjoys doing. Pujara will so keep hitting home runs and shattering all previous records in first-class cricket. I believe he’s already amassed sixty-one first-class centuries. He’ll reach 100. He is not going to give up. “He’s not going to retire at all,” he said.
Pujara was replaced at number three in the Test team by Shubman Gill, who hasn’t yet shown his mettle in the middle. However, Shreyas Iyer took Rahane’s spot at number five after the Mumbai teammate, but his consistency is still a question. In spite of this, the team management currently provides both cricket players with strong support.
