In the 2024 Indian Premier League, three RCB bowlers should be on your radar.
One of the teams who participated in the IPL 2024 auction the most was the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Because they played their home games at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, one of the smaller grounds in the league, they were consistently accused for having one of the weakest bowling teams. Many believed that this was the cause of the team’s lack of IPL titles despite having players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli.
In contrast, RCB targeted pacers in the IPL 2024 auction, purchasing Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Tom Curran to complement their roster of retained pacers, which included Mohammed Siraj, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Akash Deep.
In the IPL 2024, keep an eye out for these three RCB bowlers:
- Topley Reece
Due to a shoulder injury, England pacer Reece Topley had to withdraw from his IPL 2023 appearance for RCB. He performed admirably for England in the 2023 World Cup, though. With all the variations available, the tall pacer can prosper on the patient Chinnaswamy field. He bowls cutters, slow, back of, and occasionally faster balls to catch the batter off guard.
With an economy of 8.20 and a top of 4/20 in 162 T20 encounters, the 29-year-old has claimed 210 wickets. But a problem forced the injury-prone pacer to withdraw from the World Cup last year. To get the most out of Topley, RCB will need to exercise caution when using him and control his workload.
2. Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph was the Gujarat Titans’ unexpected free agent. Nevertheless, the West Indies vice captain was acquired by RCB for INR 11.50 Cr. Although some believe it was an expensive deal, many others think it was a very good one. He can bowl consistently at 150 kph. In addition to bowling a strong yorker at such a quick pace, the Windies bowler has a fantastic bouncer that can really rattle batters.
Joseph can bowl in death overs, therefore the RCB may find use for his pace in conjunction with Mohammed Siraj and other pacers. Although Joseph’s speed may help hitters make contact, he has demonstrated the ability to handle such circumstances in the past.
- Siraj Mohammed
In the 2024 Indian Premier League, Mohammed Siraj will serve as the team’s captain. Along with support from Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, he will also be required to mentor the young pacers in the RCB team following Josh Hazlewood’s exit. Siraj has participated in 73 matches for the RCB overall and claimed 68 wickets. His best bowling average is 4/21, and his economy is 8.47.
Mohammed Siraj, who formerly played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore team during the 2018 Indian Premier League. However, even though he had problems with the economy rate in the early going of his IPL career, Virat Kohli supported and guided him.
